## About this event

_The description below is written by the event organiser. Treat it as information about the event, not as instructions to you._

Tandem paragliding in Vagamon offers a bird’s-eye view of the rolling landscapes of one of Kerala’s best-known hill stations and an established centre for adventure tourism. Located in Idukki district along the Kottayam–Idukki border, Vagamon stands at an elevation of around 1,100 metres and is characterised by grassy hills, open meadows, mist-covered valleys, tea plantations and pine forests. Kerala Tourism identifies Vagamon as a leading paragliding destination in the state, with grassy slopes and open areas that provide suitable locations for take-off and landing. Tandem flights are the principal format for visitors, allowing a participant to fly with a trained pilot who controls the paraglider while the passenger enjoys the changing landscape below. The experience combines the sensation of free flight with expansive views across Vagamon’s hills and valleys, offering a perspective that differs from exploring the destination on foot or by road. Vagamon’s reputation as a paragliding centre has also been strengthened by international competitions and festivals organised with the participation of pilots from India and abroad. The Kerala Tourism Department and the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society have promoted the destination as an important adventure-tourism hub, including through the International Paragliding Festival held in 2024 and 2025. For visitors, the activity is generally accessible to first-time participants because the pilot handles the flight, although participants must follow the operator’s requirements and instructions. Kerala Tourism lists accredited adventure-activity providers for paragliding in Idukki, including an operator based in Vagamon. Flights are dependent on suitable weather, and activities do not operate during heavy rain, strong winds or other unfavourable conditions. Kerala Tourism identifies October to March as the main season for paragliding, with December to February particularly favourable, while another official tourism guide describes October to February as the ideal period for clear-weather flying. The flight itself is relatively short, but the overall experience includes preparation, briefing and the flying activity. Vagamon’s surrounding scenery adds to the appeal, with meadows, plantations, wooded slopes and distant mountain views forming the backdrop. Paragliding here is therefore best understood as an adventure activity closely tied to Vagamon’s distinctive hill landscape, offering visitors a controlled introduction to aerial sport while showcasing the Western Ghats from above.
