DESCRIPTION:Srimath Anantheshwar Temple at Manjeshwar is one of the most im
portant historic temples associated with the Gowda Saraswat Brahmin (GSB)
community in northern Kerala. Located close to the Karnataka border\, the
temple represents the centuries-old cultural connections between Kerala\,
coastal Karnataka and the GSB communities of the western coast. The shrine
is dedicated to Srimath Anantheshwara\, represented by a self-manifested
Shiva lingam\, and the temple complex also houses important deities includ
ing Sri Bhadranarasimha and Nagaroopi Subramanya. Its traditions combine S
haiva and Vaishnava elements and are closely connected with the Kashi Math
tradition. The temple’s history is traced by its official management to
the 8th century\, while the present structure was renovated between 1799
and 1804 following earlier destruction and damage. Its distinctive religio
us heritage and long association with the GSB community have made Manjeshw
ar an important pilgrimage centre in Kasaragod district. The temple’s pr
incipal annual celebration is the Shashti Mahotsava\, popularly known as M
anjeshwar Shashti\, held on the sixth day of the bright fortnight of Marga
shirsha\, generally falling in November or December. The central attractio
n is the Brahma Ratha\, a magnificent six-wheeled wooden temple chariot th
at is ceremonially pulled along the Car Street by thousands of devotees. T
he present Brahma Ratha was completed in 1834 and is an important symbol o
 f the temple’s religious and cultural…\n\nEvent page: https://app.even
