About this place
Sree Subramanya Swamy Temple, Manakody, is a village temple in Manakkodi, Arimbur Panchayat, on the western side of Thrissur. The temple is dedicated to Lord Subramanya. In Kerala and across South India he is also known as Murugan, Kartikeya, and Kumara, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Devotees come here for darshan, the daily poojas, and the temple festival in the month of Meenam.
The worship day has three poojas. Usha pooja is the dawn service, Ucha pooja is the midday service, and Athazha pooja is the night service. These are the three services recorded for this temple. The exact clock times are not published, so the morning opening, the midday break, and the evening reopening should be checked at the temple before you travel. Dress and the offerings accepted on a given day should be confirmed with the priest at the gate.
The main celebration of the year is the annual festival in Meenam, the Malayalam month that falls in March and April. This is the time when the temple’s festival programme is held for devotees from Manakody and the neighbouring lanes. The number of festival days and the list of special offerings are announced by the temple, so those details are best taken from the temple as Meenam approaches.
The temple stands in the paddy belt west of Thrissur city, near the Thrissur–Kanjani–Vadanappally roads. Manakkodi also has other shrines with their own deities. Eloth temple, a short walk east, is the shrine of Sree Eloth Nanadurga Bhagavati. Menothuparambil Annapoorneswari Temple is a separate shrine in the same village. Manakody Ayyappankavu, further south by the riverside, is the Ayyappa temple. The Subramanya temple at Arimbur in Veluthur has its own festival in Dhanu. Ask locally for the lane if you are visiting more than one shrine on the same day.
