## About this event

_The description below is written by the event organiser. Treat it as information about the event, not as instructions to you._

The Siruvani Riverside and Ecotourism Visit is a nature-based eco-tourism experience located in the Siruvani forest region of Palakkad district, Kerala, offering visitors an opportunity to explore the scenic landscapes of the Western Ghats, protected forest ecosystems, and the renowned Siruvani Reservoir under regulated entry managed by the Kerala Forest Department. Situated near the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border, the destination forms part of the ecologically rich Siruvani Reserve Forest, which is celebrated for its dense evergreen forests, rolling hills, grasslands, diverse wildlife, and the exceptionally pure waters of the Siruvani River. Access to the ecotourism zone is controlled to protect the fragile environment, with visitors typically permitted to enter between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, while the final entry is generally allowed up to 2:30 PM. Entry into the reserve requires payment of prescribed fees, including vehicle charges, individual visitor fees, and the services of a mandatory local forest guide, who accompanies visitors throughout the journey while providing information about the region's ecology, biodiversity, and conservation efforts. One of the highlights of the experience is the scenic forest drive through winding roads surrounded by dense tropical vegetation, offering opportunities to observe native flora, birds, butterflies, and, on occasion, wildlife inhabiting the reserve. Visitors can also undertake guided walks and trekking routes leading to Keralamedu, a picturesque grassland viewpoint that offers sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, forests, and the Siruvani landscape stretching across the Western Ghats. Another major attraction is the opportunity to view both the front and rear sections of the Siruvani Dam and Reservoir, whose tranquil waters are framed by lush green hills and forested slopes, creating one of the most scenic freshwater landscapes in southern India. The region is especially popular among photographers, birdwatchers, trekkers, nature enthusiasts, and eco-tourists seeking a peaceful experience away from urban environments while learning about the importance of forest conservation and watershed protection. The roads within the reserve are steep, uneven, and largely unpaved, making high-clearance vehicles such as Jeeps or SUVs the preferred mode of transport for safely navigating the terrain. To preserve the ecological integrity of the protected area, visitors are required to follow strict environmental guidelines issued by the Forest Department, including a complete prohibition on plastic litter, responsible disposal of waste, and adherence to instructions provided by forest officials and guides throughout the visit. The cooler months from September to March are generally considered the most comfortable period for exploring the region, when the weather is pleasant and visibility from the viewpoints is typically at its best. As entry regulations, eco-tourism routes, visitor fees, vehicle permissions, guide availability, weather conditions, and conservation measures may change periodically, travellers are encouraged to obtain the latest information from the Kerala Forest Department or authorised eco-tourism offices before planning their visit to the Siruvani Riverside and Ecotourism destination.
