## About this event

_The description below is written by the event organiser. Treat it as information about the event, not as instructions to you._

Senior Football Veterans is a monthly game for older players at the stadium ground in Anchal, between Ayoor and Punalur in Kollam. It is a veterans' meet or a kickabout. It is not a professional league fixture, and it is not a school sports day. There is no table of results you can look up in advance, and no club crest is published with the game.

A kickabout can be an informal kick, sometimes with coats for goals, sometimes on a marked pitch if one is free. Sides and a score can still exist without a league table. People organise themselves when they arrive. Senior and veteran both mean older players. They do not fix an age. Cuts such as over thirty-five are used in some veterans' football elsewhere. They are not a rule here until the players say so. A younger person should ask before putting boots on.

A full pitch is eleven a side. A veterans' game may use fewer if only a handful turn up. Five against five on half a field is still the meet, if that is who came. Boots and shin guards are not specified. Bring what you are willing to play in, and expect the ground to say if bare feet or ordinary shoes are unwelcome. The surface may be grass, earth, or a worn pitch. None of that is promised as a stadium turf.

The stadium name is the ground people in Anchal use for this meet. It is not every open field in town. Ask which gate of the stadium ground is in use. No floodlight hour is stated, and no seating plan is stated. If you come to watch, you stand where the players are content for you to stand. You do not walk across the goal because the field looks empty from the road.

The meet is on the first Sunday of the month. One Sunday is the day. The other Sundays are not automatically games. Rain can leave the pitch soft, and the players may call it off without a public notice.

Punalur railway station is about 14 kilometres from Anchal. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is about 69 kilometres away. Buses use the Anchal bus stand. Hotel Atlantis in Anchal and Archana Hotel are the rooms named for a stay. The game is on the ground, not in the hotel.

Arrive as someone who has asked, not as someone who has assumed a kickabout is short of players. The first Sunday may be eleven a side, or it may be a handful. Either way the players set the age understanding that morning. There is no published time, so ""Sunday"" is not a kickoff. The stadium ground is the place people in Anchal mean. Other open fields are not a second venue. From Punalur station it is about 14 kilometres to the Anchal bus stand, and then a question at the ground about which gate. Hotel Atlantis and Archana Hotel do not keep the score, because there may not be a score worth keeping.

There is no league table to check the night before, and no floodlights to make an evening kickoff likely. If the pitch is soft, the players may simply not come. A visitor who wanted a spectacle should ask first whether watching is welcome. The game can be small enough that an extra body on the touchline is in the way.

Ask in Anchal which ground, what time, whether there is an age cut, and whether a visitor may play or only watch. If the players are already short of a full side, they may still want the pitch to themselves. Ask before you join.
