DESCRIPTION:School Sports Meet is the annual sports day on the school groun
ds in Punalur\, Kollam. Pupils run\, jump\, throw\, and play the games the
ir school has chosen. It is a school meet. It is not a public carnival\, a
nd it is not automatically a district championship. A medal here is a scho
ol medal unless the school says the meet is something larger.\n\nTrack and
  field means races\, jumps\, and throws. A 100 metre\, a relay\, a long ju
mp\, or a march-past are the kinds of events Kerala school meets often inc
lude. They are examples\, not a fixture list. The school may add a sack ra
ce or leave out the javelin. You will know the programme when the school p
ublishes it. The pupils may be from one school or from a cluster sharing a
ground. November is the month for the meet. Exams and rain move school sp
orts days\, so the month is the season\, not a start gun. A wet ground can
push the day into the next week without becoming a different event.\n\nPu

station is in town\, under a kilometre from the centre\, and the Kallada s
uspension bridge\, finished in 1877\, is a town landmark. Neither is the s
ports field. Do not gather at the station because the town is Punalur. Ask
which school and which gate.\n\nSome meets welcome parents. Some are only
for pupils and staff. Younger brothers and sisters are not automatically
in the crowd. Photographing children needs the school's consent. The field
is a workplace for the pupils that morning. None of…\n\nEvent page: htt
