DESCRIPTION:The Sabarimala pilgrimage season brings special arrangements fo
r devotees passing through Aryankavu\, an important Ayyappa pilgrimage cen
tre in eastern Kollam. Aryankavu is home to the historic Aryankavu Sree Dh
arma Sastha Temple\, one of the five important Sastha temples in Kerala an
d a shrine where Lord Ayyappa is worshipped as a young boy. Located amid t
he forested landscape near the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border\, the temple and
surrounding settlement form part of the wider pilgrimage network associat
ed with Sabarimala. During the Mandala–Makaravilakku pilgrimage season\,
the movement of Ayyappa devotees through eastern Kerala increases conside
rably\, and government authorities have included Aryankavu among the locat
ions where free-food facilities are to be arranged for pilgrims. In Novemb
er 2024\, the Kerala Devaswom Minister announced that arrangements were be
ing made to provide free food at Aryankavu\, along with other important pi
lgrimage centres including Vandiperiyar\, Kulathupuzha and Achankovil. Suc
h annadanam initiatives reflect the longstanding tradition of offering foo
d and hospitality to pilgrims during major religious journeys. Food distri
bution is generally organised through temple\, Devaswom or community arran
gements and may operate according to the requirements of the particular pi
lgrimage season. Aryankavu itself has a strong religious identity within t
he Ayyappa tradition. The official Sabarimala portal identifies the shrine
as one of the five most important Ayyappa…\n\nEvent page: https://app.e
