Punalur Poetry Slam is a vibrant spoken-word and literary performance event hosted at the Punalur Coffee House in Punalur, bringing together poets, writers, students, performers, and literature enthusiasts for an engaging evening of bilingual poetry, live expression, and creative dialogue. The slam features performances in both Malayalam and English, allowing participants to explore diverse themes, emotions, and storytelling styles through original poetry, spoken word, rhythmic recitation, and performance literature. Set within the relaxed and intimate atmosphere of the Coffee House, the event encourages open artistic expression where emerging poets and experienced performers alike share works centered on identity, love, politics, social issues, memory, travel, culture, and everyday life experiences. The interactive slam format often includes timed performances, audience reactions, judging rounds, and open-mic participation, creating an energetic environment filled with creativity and spontaneous connection between performers and listeners. The bilingual nature of the event reflects Kerala’s evolving urban literary culture, blending contemporary spoken-word influences with the emotional depth and lyrical richness of Malayalam poetry traditions. Along with poetry recitals, the evening may include acoustic music interludes, storytelling segments, literary discussions, and collaborative performances that enhance the artistic atmosphere of the gathering. Visitors attending Punalur Poetry Slam can experience a modern form of community literature culture where performance, emotion, and public interaction come together in an informal café-style setting. The event is especially popular among college students, young writers, independent artists, and cultural audiences interested in experimental literary expression.
