DESCRIPTION:Poruvazhy Peruviruthy Malanada Temple in Edakkad\, Kollam distr
 ict\, is a distinctive shrine where Duryodhana\, the Kaurava king of the M
 ahabharata\, is traditionally worshipped. The temple is unusual in having 
 no conventional idol or sanctum sanctorum\, with worship centred on the sa
 cred hill and established local rituals associated with Malanada Appooppan
 . The annual Malakkuda Mahotsavam\, held in the Malayalam month of Meenam 
 during the second half of March\, is the temple’s principal festival and
  brings together ritual observances\, folk traditions and community partic
 ipation. The best-known feature is Malanada Kettukazhcha\, when large stru
 ctures known as Edupu Kala and Edupu Kuthira are brought from the surround
 ing karas as votive offerings and displayed in the paddy fields near the t
 emple. Some of these structures are around 70–80 feet high and are eithe
 r carried by groups of people or mounted on large chariots before being ta
 ken towards the Malanada hill. Traditional percussion accompanies the proc
 ession\, while the Oorali\, the temple’s traditional priest\, performs p
 rescribed rituals and blesses the offerings before they are taken around t
 he temple. The celebrations continue into the night with cultural programm
 es\, including the customary Kathakali presentation based on Nizhalkuthu.
