DESCRIPTION:Chottanikkara Pongala is a traditional offering observed as par
t of the annual festival at the Chottanikkara Bhagavathy Temple in Ernakul
am district. The temple\, one of Kerala’s prominent Devi pilgrimage cent
res\, dates back to the 10th century and is dedicated to Goddess Rajarajes
hwari\, who is worshipped in different forms during the day as Saraswathi
in the morning\, Lakshmi at noon and Durga in the evening. The annual fest
ival is held in the Malayalam month of Kumbham\, generally during February
  or March\, and includes special poojas\, offerings\, cultural programmes\
, traditional music and temple rituals. Pongala is one of the important ob
servances associated with the festival and is particularly notable for the
participation of women devotees. On the day of Pongala\, women prepare th
e offering in earthen pots\, traditionally cooking rice into a sweet porri
dge with ingredients including jaggery and coconut. The offering is prepar
ed in the open spaces around the temple\, with the gathering extending bey
ond the immediate temple premises to public roads when large numbers of de
votees participate. Kerala Tourism records that thousands of women from Ke
rala and other parts of India have taken part in the Pongala observance at
Chottanikkara\, making it a significant collective expression of devotion
. The offering is prepared as part of the worship of the goddess\, and dev
otees seek her blessings through the ritual. Chottanikkara is also strongl
 y associated with devotional traditions…\n\nEvent page: https://app.even
