DESCRIPTION:Pattazhy Bhagavathy Kalam Paattu is a ritual tradition associat
 ed with the worship of the Goddess at Pattazhy Devi Temple in Pattazhy\, K
 ollam district. The practice belongs to the wider Kerala tradition of Kala
 mezhuthu Paattu\, in which an elaborate image of a deity is created on the
  floor using naturally derived coloured powders and is accompanied by devo
 tional singing and ritual observances. Kerala Tourism describes Kalamezhut
 hu as an ancient ritual art in which deity figures are drawn within a desi
 gnated temple space using materials such as rice powder\, turmeric\, charc
 oal\, lime and powdered leaves. The form is particularly associated with p
 owerful deities including Bhadrakali\, and the completed image\, or kalam\
 , becomes the focus of songs\, percussion and ritual worship. The creation
  of the kalam itself is a highly skilled process. Artists traditionally pr
 epare and smooth the floor before outlining the figure and filling it with
  carefully applied colours\, following established conventions for the pro
 portions\, gestures and attributes of the deity. Different natural substan
 ces provide the characteristic colours: rice powder for white\, turmeric f
 or yellow\, charcoal for black\, a lime-and-turmeric mixture for red and p
 owdered leaves for green. In Kalamezhuthu Paattu\, the visual image is acc
 ompanied by songs that narrate or praise the deity\, while traditional per
