DESCRIPTION:Panachikkadu Saraswathi Temple\, popularly known as Dakshina Mo
okambika\, is a revered Hindu shrine in Panachikkad village of Kottayam di
strict\, Kerala\, dedicated to Goddess Saraswati\, the deity of learning a
nd the arts. The temple is particularly associated with Vidyarambham\, the
traditional ceremony through which children are introduced to the world o
f letters\, and attracts devotees seeking blessings for education\, knowle
dge and artistic pursuits. Unlike many Saraswati temples where worship is
concentrated around Navaratri\, Panachikkadu is known for maintaining regu
lar poojas and offering darshan throughout the year. The shrine has a dist
inctive setting\, with the main Saraswati image located in a natural sprin
g-like water body rather than a conventional sanctum\, while Lord Mahavish

closely connected with local legends and longstanding Brahminical worship
practices\, and its cultural importance is reinforced by its association
with writers\, poets and scholars who have traditionally sought the blessi
ngs of the goddess. The principal annual celebration is the Panachikkadu F
estival during Navaratri\, culminating in Vijayadashami and the Vidyarambh
am ceremony. Kerala Tourism’s 2026–27 event calendar lists the Panachi
kkadu Festival from 11 to 21 October 2026. During Vidyarambham\, children
are ceremonially guided to write their first letters\, traditionally marki
ng the beginning of formal learning. The Navaratri…\n\nEvent page: https
