About this place

The Manorama Hortus Art and Literature Festival is a multidisciplinary cultural festival organized by the Malayala Manorama Group, bringing together literature, visual arts, theatre, music, cinema, culture, food, and public conversations in a single community-focused event. Conceived as a platform for dialogue, creativity, and cultural exchange, the festival has become one of Kerala's prominent public celebrations of the arts, attracting writers, artists, performers, scholars, journalists, students, and visitors from across the state. The flagship Kochi edition was held from 27 to 30 November 2025 at Subhash Park and adjoining public spaces in Ernakulam, transforming the waterfront venue into a vibrant cultural hub with multiple stages and activity zones. The 2025 festival was presented under the theme "Me – You – Us: The Power of We," highlighting collaboration, community participation, and the shared role of arts and literature in bringing people together. Throughout the festival, visitors had the opportunity to attend a wide range of programmes including author talks, literary discussions, poetry readings, panel conversations, theatre performances, music concerts, exhibitions, and cultural presentations, featuring distinguished personalities from literature, journalism, cinema, academia, and the performing arts. Dedicated spaces such as the Children's Pavilion offered storytelling sessions, creative workshops, interactive activities, and educational programmes designed to encourage reading and artistic expression among young audiences, while culinary events explored Kerala's diverse food traditions through demonstrations and conversations. One of the festival's notable attractions was its evening musical programming, including tribute concerts celebrating legendary musicians such as Dr. K. J. Yesudas, adding another dimension to the festival's multidisciplinary character. In addition to literary and artistic performances, Manorama Hortus also served as a platform for discussions on contemporary social issues, culture, sustainability, innovation, and public life, encouraging meaningful interaction between speakers and audiences in an open public setting. Complementing the main festival, associated events such as the Hortus Crafts Bazaar at Ernakulam Town Hall showcased handcrafted products, traditional crafts, artisan demonstrations, and creative enterprises, supporting local artisans while extending the festival experience beyond its principal venue. By combining literature, performing arts, crafts, music, visual arts, and public engagement, Manorama Hortus has established itself as a distinctive cultural event that appeals to readers, families, students, artists, and tourists alike. Its location at Subhash Park, overlooking Kochi's waterfront, further enhances the visitor experience by integrating cultural programming with one of the city's popular public spaces. The festival reflects Malayala Manorama's continued contribution to Kerala's literary and cultural landscape by creating an accessible platform where established and emerging voices can engage with diverse audiences through discussions, performances, exhibitions, and interactive experiences. As an annual cultural initiative, Manorama Hortus continues to strengthen Kochi's reputation as a leading destination for literature, arts, and cultural tourism while fostering appreciation for creativity across generations. Official schedules, speaker line-ups, programme details, venue information, registration procedures, and visitor guidelines for each edition are announced by the Malayala Manorama Group through the festival's official channels.
