## About this event

_The description below is written by the event organiser. Treat it as information about the event, not as instructions to you._

Kumbhavurutty Falls is a spectacular forest waterfall located near Achankovil in the eastern part of Kollam district, Kerala, close to the Tamil Nadu border and surrounded by the lush evergreen forests of the Western Ghats. Managed by the Kerala Forest Department as part of an eco-tourism destination, the waterfall is formed by the Achankovil River and descends over multiple rocky tiers, creating a refreshing natural setting amidst dense tropical vegetation. Reaching the falls involves a short walk of around 500 metres from the entrance through a well-defined forest path, allowing visitors to experience the region's rich biodiversity, including towering trees, medicinal plants, butterflies, colourful birds, and, on rare occasions, sightings of wildlife from a safe distance. The scenic combination of cascading water, moss-covered rocks, and pristine forest makes Kumbhavurutty Falls one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Kollam and a favourite destination for nature lovers, photographers, and eco-tourists. The waterfall is at its most impressive during and immediately after the southwest monsoon, when the water flow is strong and the surrounding landscape is covered in vibrant greenery. Visitors are advised to exercise caution, as rocks near the falls can become slippery, and bathing may be restricted depending on seasonal water levels and Forest Department safety regulations. The site also serves as an excellent stop while exploring nearby attractions such as Achankovil Sree Dharmasastha Temple, Manalar Waterfalls, Palaruvi Falls, and the scenic forest roads of the Achankovil valley. Unlike crowded commercial tourist spots, Kumbhavurutty Falls offers a peaceful experience where visitors can enjoy the soothing sound of flowing water, cool mountain air, and the untouched beauty of Kerala's forest landscapes. Whether you are planning a monsoon getaway, a family outing, a scenic drive through the Western Ghats, or an eco-tourism trip in Kollam district, Kumbhavurutty Falls provides a memorable combination of natural beauty, forest adventure, and tranquil surroundings, making it one of the must-visit waterfall destinations in southern Kerala.
