About this place
The Kudumbashree Arangu Arts Festival is the flagship state-level cultural festival of Kudumbashree Mission, organized in association with the Local Self Government Department, Government of Kerala, to celebrate and showcase the artistic and literary talents of members of Kudumbashree Neighbourhood Groups (NHGs) and auxiliary groups from across the state. Conceived as a platform to encourage women's participation in cultural activities beyond their everyday responsibilities, the festival promotes creativity, confidence, leadership, and community engagement by bringing hidden artistic talents from households to the public stage. Conducted annually at different host districts in Kerala, Arangu brings together thousands of participants representing all districts in a vibrant celebration of Kerala's performing arts, folk traditions, literature, and cultural diversity. The festival features approximately 95 stage and non-stage competitions, covering a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines including Thiruvathira, Oppana, Margamkali, drama, folk songs, group dance, light music, classical and folk performances, as well as literary competitions such as essay writing, poetry, and other creative writing events. These competitions provide women with opportunities to demonstrate their talents while fostering cultural exchange, teamwork, and appreciation of Kerala's traditional and contemporary art forms. Beyond competition, the festival serves as a powerful platform for social inclusion and women's empowerment by encouraging active participation in cultural life and recognizing artistic excellence at the grassroots level. Arangu 2025 was held from 26 to 28 May 2025 at Athirampuzha in Kottayam district, where Kannur district emerged as the overall champion with 217 points, followed by Kasaragod in second place. The previous edition, Arangu 2024, was hosted at Pilikode in Kasaragod district, attracting thousands of participants and audiences across multiple venues. Through its combination of cultural performances, literary competitions, and community participation, the Kudumbashree Arangu Arts Festival has become one of Kerala's most significant cultural initiatives dedicated to empowering women through the arts while preserving the state's rich cultural traditions. Since the host district, competition schedule, event categories, participation guidelines, and programme details vary for each edition, the official organizers announce the complete festival calendar, venues, and competition information before every annual Kudumbashree Arangu Arts Festival.
