DESCRIPTION:Kottakkal Pooram is the annual seven-day festival of Sree Viswa
 mbhara Temple in Kottakkal\, Malappuram district\, and is particularly not
 ed for the strong presence of classical music and traditional performing a
 rts alongside its religious observances. The temple\, dedicated to Lord Vi
 swambhara\, a form of Lord Vishnu\, was consecrated by Vaidyaratnam P. S. 
 Varier in 1932 as part of the cultural and institutional legacy of Kottakk
 al Arya Vaidya Sala. The annual festival was initiated in 1934 and has dev
 eloped into an important cultural occasion in Kottakkal. Held in the Malay
 alam month of Meenam\, generally during March or April\, the festival comb
 ines temple rituals with a programme of performances that has earned it a 
 distinctive place in the cultural calendar of Malappuram. Kerala Tourism r
 ecords Hindustani and Carnatic music concerts\, Kathakali\, Ottanthullal\,
  Chakyar Koothu and Panchavadyam among the traditional programmes associat
 ed with the festival. The official Arya Vaidya Sala account likewise descr
 ibes the seven-day celebration as an occasion that attracts admirers of cl
 assical arts and features leading Kathakali artists and musicians. The fes
 tival’s artistic character is closely connected with Kottakkal’s wider
  history as a centre for the preservation and teaching of Kerala’s perfo
 rming arts. P. S. Varier established the P.S.V. Dramatic Troupe\, which la
