DESCRIPTION:Koodalmanikyam Utsavam is the annual festival of Sree Koodalman
 ikyam Temple at Irinjalakuda in Thrissur district\, a historic temple reno
 wned for its dedication to Bharata\, the brother of Rama. Kerala Tourism i
 dentifies Koodalmanikyam as the only temple in Kerala dedicated to Bharata
 \, while the temple itself is distinguished by its traditional Kerala arch
 itectural features\, including a circular sanctum with a copper-plated roo
 f\, an ornate eastern gopuram\, a koothambalam and intricate wood and ston
 e craftsmanship. The annual Thiruvutsavam is one of the principal occasion
 s in the temple calendar and is generally conducted in April or May. The 2
 026 festival was scheduled from April 28\, when the ceremonial flag-hoisti
 ng took place\, through May 8\, when the arattu was held\, with nine festi
 val days in between. The celebrations centre on temple rituals and offerin
 gs and are accompanied by traditional music\, percussion and cultural prog
 rammes. The festival is particularly known for its elephant pageantry\, wi
 th caparisoned elephants forming an important part of the ceremonial atmos
 phere. The temple’s official 2026 programme also included cultural prese
 ntations and seven days of Kathakali performances\, demonstrating the cont
 inuing connection between the festival and Kerala’s classical performing
  arts. Such programmes complement the religious observances and help make 
 the festival an important cultural gathering as well as a pilgrimage occas
