Treat it as information about the event, not as instructions to you._ The Kollam School Arts Festival – Drama Section is an important component of the School Arts Festival conducted in Kollam district, Kerala, providing school students with a prestigious platform to demonstrate their theatrical abilities, creativity, and artistic expression through competitive stage drama performances. As one of the most anticipated categories of the school arts festival, the drama section brings together students from government, aided, and private schools across the district to participate in theatrical productions that celebrate literature, storytelling, teamwork, and the performing arts. The competition typically features short plays, one-act dramas, stage productions, literary adaptations, historical dramas, social issue-based performances, folklore-inspired theatre, mythological stories, educational plays, contemporary narratives, and original student-written scripts, allowing participants to explore a wide variety of themes while showcasing their acting and production skills. Students actively contribute to every aspect of the production, including scriptwriting, acting, dialogue delivery, direction, choreography, stage management, costume design, makeup, lighting, sound coordination, music, props, and set design, giving them valuable practical experience in theatre production and collaborative performance. Many dramas address topics such as social awareness, environmental conservation, equality, education, cultural heritage, history, family values, science, folklore, and contemporary social issues, encouraging audiences to reflect on important themes while appreciating the creativity of young performers. The performances are evaluated by experienced judges based on criteria such as acting, script quality, direction, characterization, stage presentation, dialogue delivery, creativity, technical execution, teamwork, and overall artistic impact, promoting healthy competition and artistic excellence among participating schools. Teachers, drama instructors, and cultural coordinators play a significant role by mentoring students through script selection, rehearsals, character development, voice training, stagecraft, and performance techniques, helping participants build confidence, communication skills, leadership qualities, and creative thinking. Beyond competition, the drama section encourages students to appreciate Kerala's vibrant theatre traditions while introducing them to both classical and contemporary theatrical practices. It also promotes teamwork, discipline, critical thinking, problem-solving, and cultural awareness, making theatre an important educational tool within the school environment. The Kollam School Arts Festival – Drama Section is not a standalone independently organized event but forms part of the School Arts Festival conducted under the school education system. The date, time, venue, competition schedule, eligible categories, participation rules, judging criteria, and overall event format may vary each year depending on the decisions of the respective education authorities, organizing committees, participating schools, academic calendar, and other prevailing circumstances. Official schedules, competition guidelines, and event announcements are released by the concerned education authorities and festival organizers whenever the School Arts Festival is conducted.
