DESCRIPTION:Kerala Bee Box Training is listed as a class in building a bee
box\, placed at a “Punalur Apiary Centre” in Punalur\, Kollam. A bee b
ox is a wooden hive for bees that live in a cavity\, not the open cliff co
mb of a wild rock bee. In Kerala the usual box bee is the Indian hive bee\
, Apis cerana. Some keepers also use the Italian honey bee\, Apis mellifer
a\, and a smaller plain box for the stingless bee\, Tetragonula. The hive
taught in public classes is a movable-frame box\, often the ISI A or B typ
 e. It has a brood chamber\, wooden frames set a bee-space apart\, a honey
super above\, a lid\, and a small entrance. Building one is carpentry: str
aight timber\, an exact frame size\, and a gap the bees will not clog with
wax in the wrong place. Putting a live colony into that box is a separate
skill. This listing does not say which bee\, which box\, or whether the d
ay is only woodwork.\n\nThe map for “Punalur Apiary Centre” opens on t
he Rubber Board Regional Office in Punalur. That office deals with rubber.
It is not a published apiary\, and no teacher\, fee\, or class notice is
attached to this name. “Last Saturday” is only a directory label. Puna
lur is a rubber town\, and rubber flowers are a known nectar source for bo
x bees after the trees flower\, which is why a rubber office and a bee cla
ss are easy to mix up. That mix-up does not turn the office into a classro
om.\n\nThe beekeeping centre Kerala does publish is in another district. H
orticorp runs the Kallimel centre near Mavelikara\, in Alappuzha\, on…\n
