## About this event

_The description below is written by the event organiser. Treat it as information about the event, not as instructions to you._

The Indian Business Museum at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) is a distinctive institution dedicated to documenting and preserving the history of Indian trade, commerce and business. Established as India’s first museum dedicated to Indian business history, the museum was developed to recognise the contributions of business leaders and enterprises to the country’s economic development while encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation among younger generations. Located within the IIM Kozhikode campus at Kunnamangalam, the museum covers approximately 23,000 square feet and presents India’s commercial development through a range of historical and thematic sections. Its collection includes artefacts, photographs, historical documents, letters, miniature models, audio-visual material, digital resources and other business-related memorabilia. The museum’s displays are organised around major periods and areas of India’s economic history, including ancient, medieval, colonial, pre-independence and post-independence developments, as well as sectors such as banking, technology, public enterprises and industry. Corporate pavilions have also formed an important part of the museum, with major Indian organisations contributing displays and historical material. The museum has included dedicated sections associated with organisations such as Tata, Godrej, Reliance, State Bank of India, Infosys and FACT, while its RBI Gallery traces the development of India’s central banking and financial system. An ISRO pavilion and, more recently, an Indian Navy pavilion have further expanded the museum’s thematic scope. A notable feature associated with the museum is a large model of the traditional Malabar uru, reflecting Kozhikode’s historic connection with maritime trade and commerce across the Indian Ocean. The museum therefore connects India’s wider business history with the commercial heritage of Malabar, a region historically shaped by international trade. Beyond functioning as a conventional museum, the Indian Business Museum has an educational purpose closely aligned with IIM Kozhikode’s academic environment. Its exhibits provide students, researchers, entrepreneurs and visitors with an opportunity to examine how commerce, enterprise, technology and institutions have developed over time. The museum is particularly relevant to those interested in Indian economic history, entrepreneurship, management, corporate heritage and the evolution of major industries. Visitors should note that the museum is located within an academic campus and access arrangements may differ from those of a conventional public museum. Advance confirmation with IIM Kozhikode is advisable before planning a visit, particularly for non-campus visitors. With its unusual focus on India’s business heritage and its extensive collection of historical and corporate material, the Indian Business Museum offers a distinctive cultural and educational attraction in Kozhikode.
