The Evoor Sree Krishna Swamy Temple (often called Evoor Sri Krishna Temple) is a very ancient and highly revered temple located in Evoor village near Cheppad, between Haripad and Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district, Kerala. It is dedicated to Lord Krishna (Vishnu) and is considered one of the important Vaishnava shrines of Onattukara, often referred to as the “Guruvayoor of Onattukara”. The temple is closely linked with Mahabharata legends, especially the Khandava Dahanam story, where Krishna and Arjuna are believed to have helped Agni devour the forest.The presiding deity here is unique in form, known as Prayoga Chakra Prathishta, depicting Lord Krishna in a rare four-armed Vishnu aspect holding the conch and discus. The temple is also known for special rituals like Raktha Pushpanjali, which is not commonly found in most Vishnu temples. Major festivals such as Evoor Ekadasi and Makara Utsavam are celebrated with traditional rituals, processions, and cultural events, making it an important spiritual and cultural centre in the region.
