DESCRIPTION:Edamon Shivaratri is associated with the worship of Lord Shiva
at the Edamon Ayiravalli Temple in Edamon\, Kollam district\, a local shri
ne included among the Shiva temples of the Punalur region. The temple is i
dentified in temple listings as an Ayiravalli Shiva temple\, placing it wi
thin the regional tradition of worship associated with Shiva in the Ayirav
alli form. Maha Shivaratri is observed in Kerala as a major Shaivite festi
val\, marked by intensified worship\, prayers and devotional observances\,
and the occasion provides devotees with an opportunity to remain engaged
in religious practice through the night. At Edamon\, the Shivaratri observ
ance is centred on temple worship and devotion rather than on a large publ
ic spectacle. Devotees traditionally visit Shiva temples on this sacred ni
ght to offer prayers and participate in special rituals\, while fasting an
d keeping vigil are established features of Maha Shivaratri observance in
Hindu tradition. The atmosphere of a Kerala temple during Shivaratri is sh
aped by lamps\, temple bells\, chants and the movement of devotees attendi
ng the various ceremonies. Ritual worship of Shiva commonly includes abhis
hekam and other offerings\, although the precise sequence and nature of ce
remonies at Edamon are determined by the temple’s own customary practice
 s. Shivaratri also has a distinctive place in Kerala’s temple calendar\,
with devotees often observing the night through prayer and jagaranam\, or
wakefulness\, until the following morning. The…\n\nEvent page: https://
