## About this event

_The description below is written by the event organiser. Treat it as information about the event, not as instructions to you._

Chittipara is a scenic granite hill and offbeat viewpoint destination located near Tholikkodu in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, approximately 30 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram city on the route to the popular hill station of Ponmudi. Rising prominently above the surrounding foothills of the Western Ghats, the massive granite outcrop has become a favourite among local trekkers, photographers, cyclists, and nature enthusiasts seeking a peaceful outdoor escape close to the city. Although Chittipara is not an officially developed trekking destination, its expansive rock surface, elevated ridgeline, and panoramic summit views have earned it the popular nickname "Meesapulimala of Trivandrum" among local hiking communities because of its sweeping landscapes and spectacular sunrise scenery. Unlike long-distance mountain treks, the climb to the summit is relatively short and is generally considered easy to moderate, making it suitable for beginners and casual hikers with a reasonable level of fitness. The route begins near the base of the granite hill and follows a natural path over exposed rock surfaces with patches of shrubs and seasonal vegetation, gradually ascending to the summit without constructed stairways or extensive visitor infrastructure. Certain sections become steeper near the top, requiring careful footing, particularly during or after the monsoon season when the granite surface can become slippery, making sturdy trekking shoes with good grip highly recommended. Despite the short climb, the summit rewards visitors with uninterrupted panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, rolling hills, lush forests, agricultural fields, villages, and the distant mountain ranges of the Western Ghats. On clear days, the viewpoint provides excellent visibility across the eastern landscapes of Thiruvananthapuram district, while early mornings are especially popular as the rising sun illuminates the mist-covered valleys, creating dramatic scenery that attracts photographers and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year. Sunset also offers impressive views as the changing colours of the sky reflect across the rocky landscape and surrounding greenery. The natural environment around Chittipara supports native vegetation, seasonal grasses, butterflies, and a variety of bird species, making the destination equally appealing for bird watching and nature photography. Following the southwest monsoon, the surrounding foothills become particularly vibrant with fresh greenery, enhancing the scenic beauty of the granite peak. The months from October to February generally provide the most comfortable weather for visiting, with pleasant temperatures, clearer skies, and ideal conditions for walking and sightseeing, although the destination remains accessible throughout much of the year with appropriate care during wet weather. Owing to its location on the Ponmudi route, visitors often combine a trip to Chittipara with nearby attractions such as Ponmudi Hill Station, Golden Valley, Kallar River, Meenmutty Waterfalls, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, and other nature destinations in eastern Thiruvananthapuram, making it an excellent addition to a day-long itinerary. Since the hill remains largely undeveloped, visitors are encouraged to carry drinking water, avoid littering, respect the natural environment, and follow responsible tourism practices to help preserve the area's pristine character. Chittipara continues to gain recognition as one of the hidden viewpoint destinations in Thiruvananthapuram district, offering a rewarding combination of short-distance hiking, panoramic Western Ghats scenery, outdoor recreation, landscape photography, and tranquil natural surroundings, making it an ideal destination for travellers looking to experience Kerala's lesser-known hill landscapes away from the crowds while enjoying one of the district's most impressive granite viewpoints.
