## About this event

_The description below is written by the event organiser. Treat it as information about the event, not as instructions to you._

Cherai Beach, on Vypin Island in Ernakulam district, is a popular coastal destination where the Arabian Sea meets the distinctive backwater landscape of central Kerala. The beach is characterised by a broad sandy shoreline, coconut palms and a relatively gentle gradient, making it a favoured place for swimming, walking and relaxed seaside recreation. Kerala Tourism also recognises Cherai as a destination for organised water-based adventure activities, including parasailing, with accredited operators offering supervised experiences subject to suitable sea and wind conditions. Parasailing provides an elevated perspective of the coastline, with the beach, Arabian Sea and nearby backwater landscape forming a distinctive setting. Kerala Tourism describes the activity as easy to moderate and recommends checking conditions with the operator before setting out, as coastal weather can affect operations. A typical parasailing experience involves a safety briefing, harness and life jacket, followed by a short flight; the complete activity, including preparation and boat time, generally takes around 20–25 minutes. Cherai’s appeal extends beyond organised watersports. Its low-gradient beach is particularly associated with swimming, while the surrounding landscape combines sea, backwaters, coconut groves, village settlements and paddy fields. The beach also provides views of traditional Chinese fishing nets, and dolphin sightings are occasionally reported in the area. A walkway and children’s park add to its suitability for family outings, while local establishments offer seafood and other refreshments. The wider Vypin region provides opportunities to explore the cultural and maritime character of the Kochi area, with nearby waterways and villages adding variety to a beach visit. Although surfing is available at some Kerala beaches and adventure centres, Cherai is currently more clearly documented by Kerala Tourism as a destination for parasailing and other water-based activities rather than as a dedicated beginner-surfing centre. Visitors specifically seeking surfing lessons should therefore confirm current availability with an accredited provider before planning a session. For parasailing and other sea activities, October to March is generally regarded as the favourable season, although individual operations remain dependent on weather, wind and sea conditions. Participants should use the safety equipment supplied by the operator and follow all instructions throughout the activity. With its combination of beach, backwaters, coconut-lined surroundings and organised adventure options, Cherai offers a varied coastal experience within easy reach of Kochi and provides a convenient setting for combining leisure with a supervised water-sports activity.

🚆 Railway: Ernakulam Junction (Ernakulam South) – approximately 26 km from Cherai Beach; Aluva Railway Station is another practical rail option.

✈️ Airport: Cochin International Airport – approximately 20 km from Cherai Beach according to the Ernakulam District Administration.

🚌 Bus: Cherai is accessible by road from Kochi and Ernakulam via Vypin Island, with local buses serving Cherai Junction and surrounding areas. From Cherai Junction, local autorickshaws and other road transport connect to the beach.

🏨 Stay: Hotels, resorts, serviced villas and homestays are available around Cherai Beach and Vypin Island. Kerala Tourism lists accredited properties including Cherai Beach Residency and other accommodation in the wider area.

✅ Notes: Kerala Tourism currently lists Cherai as a parasailing destination. Parasailing is seasonal and dependent on wind and sea conditions, with October–March identified as the favourable period. Use an accredited operator and confirm current activity availability before visiting. Surfing availability should be confirmed separately, as Cherai is not currently presented by Kerala Tourism as a dedicated surfing destination.
