## About this event

_The description below is written by the event organiser. Treat it as information about the event, not as instructions to you._

Bekal Beach in Kasaragod district is a scenic coastal destination known for its expansive sandy shoreline, Arabian Sea views and close proximity to the historic Bekal Fort. The beach forms part of the Bekal tourism area, where the coastline combines natural scenery with one of Kerala’s most prominent historic landmarks. Bekal Fort rises on a laterite headland beside the sea and provides broad views over the Arabian Sea and surrounding coastline, creating a distinctive backdrop for visitors exploring the beach. Bekal Beach is primarily suited to relaxation, seaside walks, photography and enjoying the coastal landscape, while the wider Bekal area also offers opportunities for selected leisure and adventure activities. The beach is known for its relatively tranquil atmosphere, particularly during quieter periods, and the surrounding palms and open shoreline contribute to its appeal as a coastal escape. The nearby Bekal Beach Park provides an additional recreational space, while the fort’s pathways, observation areas and sea-facing ramparts offer opportunities to explore the area’s history and landscape. The wider Bekal destination has also developed as a tourism centre, with accommodation, restaurants and organized recreational activities available around the beach and fort. Visitors interested in water-based activities should use only authorized operators and follow local safety instructions, as sea conditions can change and activities may be seasonal. Stand-up paddleboarding is an established water sport in Kerala, but Kerala Tourism currently highlights Varkala, the Chaliyar River and Kumarakom among the state’s principal stand-up paddling locations rather than Bekal. Bekal is instead documented for a range of leisure and adventure activities, including water sports associated with the annual Bekal Beach Festival. The beach’s proximity to Bekal Fort makes it particularly suitable for combining coastal sightseeing with a visit to one of Kerala’s major historic monuments. The fort itself dates to the 17th century and is spread across approximately 40 acres, with its distinctive keyhole-shaped design, observation tower, water tank and sea-facing defensive walls forming major attractions. The combination of the beach, fort and surrounding coastal landscape makes Bekal a prominent destination in northern Kerala. Visitors can enjoy the shoreline throughout the year, while weather and sea conditions should be considered when planning outdoor or water-based activities. Bekal Beach offers a relaxed coastal experience centred on scenery, history and recreation, with the imposing fort and Arabian Sea providing its most characteristic features
