The Ashtamudi Craft and Art Festival, popularly known as Paramparya, is one of Kollam's most celebrated annual cultural festivals, held at Ashramam Maidan on the picturesque banks of Ashtamudi Lake in Kerala, usually during December and January. Organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), Kollam, the festival showcases the rich artistic, cultural, and architectural heritage of Kerala while bringing together skilled artisans, craftsmen, and performers from across India. Visitors can explore a vibrant exhibition featuring traditional handicrafts such as coir products, wood carvings, cane and bamboo crafts, terracotta, pottery, handloom textiles, jewellery, metalwork, sculptures, paintings, and indigenous decorative items, with many artisans demonstrating their craftsmanship through live workshops and interactive sessions. The festival serves as an important platform for both established and emerging artisans to display their creations, promote traditional craftsmanship, and connect with buyers, collectors, and art enthusiasts. Beyond the craft exhibitions, Paramparya offers an engaging cultural experience through captivating performances of Kerala's folk arts, tribal dances, classical music, traditional theatre, storytelling, and cultural programmes representing the diverse heritage of India. Visitors can also participate in seminars, craft demonstrations, film screenings, and educational workshops that highlight the importance of preserving India's traditional art forms and supporting sustainable livelihoods for artisan communities. Food stalls serving authentic Kerala cuisine and regional delicacies further enhance the festive atmosphere, making the event enjoyable for families, tourists, photographers, and culture lovers alike. Set against the scenic backdrop of Ashtamudi Lake and the lush surroundings of Ashramam Picnic Village, the festival combines natural beauty with artistic excellence, creating a memorable cultural experience in southern Kerala. By promoting indigenous crafts, heritage conservation, and responsible tourism, the Ashtamudi Craft and Art Festival continues to play a significant role in preserving Kerala's artistic traditions while strengthening Kollam's reputation as a vibrant cultural destination. Whether visiting to shop for authentic handicrafts, enjoy live performances, meet talented artisans, or experience Kerala's rich cultural heritage, Paramparya offers one of the most rewarding art and craft festivals in the state
